X is ending its controversial revenue-sharing program for content creators, marking another shift in a series of revisions under Elon Musk’s ownership. A new initiative, titled 'Original Content Rewards,' is scheduled to launch on September 8th.

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify for the new program, creators must maintain at least 500 verified followers and have accumulated at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the last 90 days. Revenue will be calculated based on 'qualified impressions' on what the platform deems 'original content.'

Qualified impressions are defined as unique views from Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline feed, specifically where at least 50% of the post is visible. Participants in the existing revenue-sharing model will continue to accrue earnings until September 7th.

Defining Originality

The platform has established guidelines for what constitutes original content, which include:

  • Original reporting or analysis.
  • Photos and videos captured by the user.
  • Graphics or illustrations produced by the creator, including memes.
  • Commentary or reactions, provided they 'add something meaningful.'

Allegra Jacchia, Senior Product Manager, Creators at SpaceXAI, stated that the program is designed to reward creators who bring unique perspectives and expertise, rather than those who have mastered 'gaming the system.' Theoretically, repurposing content from others or merely replying to posts will no longer serve as a viable income source under the new structure.
