Philips has announced that its Sonicare Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 Prestige smart toothbrush is now available in Europe and the US. Initially announced in July, the device is making its debut ahead of a broader global rollout scheduled for 2027.
Features and Functionality
The Next-Generation DiamondClean 9900 features a built-in touchscreen, allowing users to navigate through eight different cleaning modes and three intensity levels. This inclusion follows a trend of adding displays to traditional household tools to enhance user interaction.
A standout feature is the “12-segment mouth map” displayed on the screen. This visual guide represents different sections of the mouth and changes color to indicate whether the motion-detecting sensors believe a section has been brushed effectively or requires further attention.
AI-Driven Performance
Equipped with a third-generation AI model and Philips’ proprietary “SenseIQ” technology, the toothbrush monitors brushing technique in real-time. A color-changing light ring on the base alerts users if they apply too much pressure. Beyond simple alerts, the 9900 can automatically adjust its own vibration intensity to compensate for poor technique, aiming for a safer and more effective clean.
Market Positioning
At a retail price of $379.99, the new model is positioned competitively. It is priced lower than its predecessor’s original $429.99 tag and significantly undercuts Dyson’s $499 CameraJet smart toothbrush, which has reportedly faced issues among early adopters.
