San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has disclosed new details regarding a vehicle accident he was involved in four weeks ago near downtown Palo Alto. While Shanahan initially stated the accident was his fault, he revealed during a recent press conference that his Tesla’s Autopilot system was engaged at the time of the incident.
Driver Responsibility and 'Partnership'
Despite the technology's involvement, Shanahan was clear about not shifting the blame. "I’ve had Autopilot for nine years, so I’m pretty comfortable with it," he said, adding that he is unsure whether the system malfunctioned or if he accidentally disengaged it himself.
The coach emphasized the necessity of driver vigilance: "Regardless, that’s… it is always your fault, whether you’re on Autopilot or not. You can’t take your eyes off the road. It’s a partnership driving, you don’t just turn it over to a computer."
