Twitch users now have the option to opt out of having their content used to train Amazon’s generative AI models. This opt-out covers a broad range of channel data, including live streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and any pictures or text associated with a channel.
Understanding the Opt-Out
According to a Twitch support page, opting out ensures that content will not be used in the "future training" of Amazon AI models designed to generate or synthesize text, audio, images, or video. However, other "AI-supported" features, such as captions and safety tools, will remain functional regardless of this setting.
A notable caveat involves cross-channel interaction. Twitch states that if a user participates in a chat on another person’s stream, the host's opt-out preferences—not the chatter's—will govern whether that specific chat data can be used for AI training.
Settings and Defaults
The "Training for Generative AI" toggle is located under the Security and Privacy tab in Twitch settings. Initial observations indicate that the toggle is enabled by default, meaning users must manually intervene to prevent their data from being used for generative AI development.
Amazon clarifies that turning this toggle off does not opt users out of other content uses defined in the Twitch Privacy Notice. These include AI-supported features intended to benefit the community, such as recommendation algorithms for viewer discovery and safety tools like AutoMod.
