The Greek Ministry of Digital Governance is spearheading a significant digital transformation of the Hellenic Parliament by introducing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). The project, scheduled to complete its preparatory phase by September 2026, aims to slash bureaucracy and bolster transparency within the legislative body.
Administrative Automation
A core component of the initiative involves automating the official correspondence of the Speaker of the Parliament's Secretariat. Digital bots will manage approximately 350 incoming messages daily, automatically identifying document categories and handling registration and archiving. Key automated processes include:
- Registration of incoming documents, requests, and parliamentary questions.
- Management of outgoing correspondence and official letters.
- High-precision automated processing of postal vote documents.
The AI@Parliament Platform
The second application, the AI@Parliament platform, will serve as a modern tool for analyzing parliamentary work. Utilizing Generative AI and Machine Learning, the platform will convert speech to text and automatically identify speakers. A standout feature is the synchronization of every spoken phrase with the exact timestamp in the session's video, enabling citizens and journalists to search for specific references by MP or topic.
Timeline and Data Protection
According to the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, the applications will be rolled out gradually in October and November 2026. Data processing will be conducted via the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance, adhering strictly to the European regulatory framework for data protection.
