The 12th ShipIT Conference, co-organized by AMMITEC and BOUSSIAS Events, was held at the Eugenides Foundation, drawing significant participation from the shipping and technology sectors. This year’s event centered on cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data utilization, energy efficiency, and the introduction of the new AMMITEC AI Working Group.

From Technology to Business Value

The core message of ShipIT was clear: digitalization in shipping has evolved from a technological choice into a fundamental driver of operational resilience and competitiveness. Discussions moved beyond the technologies themselves to focus on how they can generate measurable business value.

As noted during the proceedings, the objective is not simply to adopt more technology, but to implement the right technology with security, proper governance, and a clear business purpose.

AI Transitioning to Real-World Operations

Particular emphasis was placed on the rapid adoption of AI, which is currently moving from the experimental phase into the core operations of shipping companies. The industry's next challenge is to manage this transition through structured governance and consistent human oversight.

In response to these needs, the launch of the AMMITEC AI Working Group was announced. This new initiative will focus on:

  • Practical AI adoption and specific maritime use cases.
  • Governance frameworks and addressing "shadow AI."
  • Developing industry benchmarks, training programs, and practical tools.

The conference highlighted that the next era of digital shipping will be defined not by the volume of technology a company possesses, but by its ability to utilize it safely, rapidly, and with genuine operational effectiveness.
