A new chapter for the Greek retail sector opened at the GRAND MASOUTIS store in Kalamaria on August 28 and 29, 2026. During the "BACK TO SCHOOL" promotional event, MEGA introduced the humanoid social robot Pepper, marking the first time such technology has been used for an organized product promotion within a Greek supermarket.
Interactive Technology in the Aisles
Developed with the technical support of ORTEM HELLAS S.A., the Pepper robot engaged with shoppers through voice interaction and its integrated touchscreen. Instead of a static display, the robot invited families to participate in interactive quizzes and games focused on school preparation and personal hygiene. This initiative brought a practice already gaining momentum abroad to the local market, transforming the traditional shopping trip into a digital experience.
Strategic Collaboration and Consumer Engagement
The event took place in a specially designed area featuring a school bus installation, where visitors could find offers on Wet Hankies, BabyCare, and MEGA products. The project was the result of a collaboration between three entities: MEGA, which designed the concept; the MASOUTIS chain, which hosted the action; and ORTEM HELLAS, which managed the robot's technical customization and interactive content.
According to the organizers, the success of the event demonstrates how social robotics can serve as an active communication tool in experiential marketing. By combining technology with creative design, the companies aimed to offer a unique way to connect with consumers during the busy back-to-school season.
