PCT S.A. (Piraeus Container Terminal), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Ports, emerged as a major winner at the 2026 Environmental Awards, securing two Gold Awards for its implementation of innovative environmental management practices and technological solutions designed to enhance port infrastructure sustainability.

A Data-Driven Decarbonization Strategy

The first gold distinction was awarded to the "Carbon Intelligence Framework: Monitoring, Managing and Reducing Port Emissions" project. This comprehensive system facilitates the recording, monitoring, and management of greenhouse gas emissions. The systematic application of this framework has already yielded significant results, achieving a reduction in CO2 emissions exceeding 35% compared to the 2022 baseline.

AI and Climate Resilience

The second accolade focused on the "SMART Microclimate Forecasting Network: Enhancing Climate Resilience." Utilizing a network of 28 meteorological stations, the project leverages Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to provide specialized microclimatic forecasts and early warnings. This application is central to the terminal's climate resilience strategy, enhancing worker safety and ensuring operational continuity under challenging weather conditions.

"By leveraging technology and Artificial Intelligence, we invest in innovative solutions that contribute to the reduction of our environmental footprint and strengthen climate resilience," stated Ms. Nina Argyropoulou, Deputy Manager of PCT's Public Relations & Sustainability Department.

The awards ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, highlights PCT's ongoing commitment to transforming sustainability goals into measurable actions within the maritime and logistics sector.
