The Hellenic Police (ELAS) conducted an impressive demonstration of operational readiness at the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF). Following the inauguration of the ELAS Information Center, special forces units showcased a high-risk intervention scenario involving the neutralization of a "barricaded" robber using advanced technological means.

International Cooperation via the ATLAS Network

The exercise featured personnel from Greece's EKAM, Italy's G.I.S., and Austria's EKO Cobra—three elite units belonging to the European ATLAS network. This joint operation highlighted the importance of cross-border collaboration in security matters. The demonstration was attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Speaker of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis, and Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis.

The Role of the Robot Dog and Drones

The scenario simulated an armed robbery where the suspect remained holed up inside a building. The intervention relied on two primary technological assets:

  • Robot Dog: This robotic asset was the first to approach the scene, opening the door for special forces and later retrieving the suspect's weapon after police instructions were issued via loudspeaker.
  • Drones: Aerial units hovered over the site throughout the operation, providing continuous visual feeds and transmitting critical data to the operational forces.

The demonstration concluded with EKAM officers storming the premises with speed and precision, successfully immobilizing and arresting the suspect, earning warm applause from the spectators.
