Snap is expanding its AI ecosystem with the introduction of 'Specs Intelligence,' a new assistant that the company labels as an 'anticipatory AI service.' The tool is designed to link various digital accounts to help users manage work tasks, travel information, and long-term goals by understanding personal context.

Anticipating User Needs

Unlike reactive AI assistants, Specs Intelligence is built to surface information and actions without waiting for a prompt. According to Snap, the service develops an understanding of a user’s routines, priorities, and relationships based on connected apps like Gmail and Slack. This context is intended to carry across devices, helping users transition between personal and professional responsibilities.

Practical applications highlighted by the company include highlighting key decisions before a meeting or flagging work deadlines that conflict with upcoming travel plans. When used with Snap’s AR glasses, the assistant can place this information directly into the wearer's view, such as providing a daily briefing before work begins.

Platform Access and Privacy

The service launched in preview for iOS this Wednesday, with a waitlist now open for a 'full early-access experience' on Mac. Technically, Specs Intelligence utilizes a proprietary mixture of open-source models hosted in the US alongside local LLMs, a blend that Snap says it updates regularly.

Addressing privacy concerns, Snap stated that it cannot view or access the personal content used within Specs Intelligence. Furthermore, the company emphasized that data from connected accounts will not be used to train its AI models or serve personalized advertisements, though the challenge remains to gain user trust for such broad data access.
