Google has introduced a new photography feature for its Pixel 11 lineup called «Camera Looks,» designed to move away from the hyper-processed «smartphone» aesthetic. By processing image data differently at the sensor level, the feature produces photos with distinct styles, such as «Digi,» which emulates the look of early digital cameras.
Hardware Exclusivity
Despite the software-driven nature of many Google features, Camera Looks is currently restricted to the Pixel 11 series. Google spokesperson Alex Moriconi confirmed that these camera updates are only available on the company's latest devices. While Moriconi noted that Google is «always looking to bring experiences to more users,» he stated the company has «nothing to share at this time» regarding a potential rollout to older Pixel models.
The move suggests a strategic push to encourage hardware upgrades, even as the feature itself focuses on making cameras better by intentionally subverting the technical perfection of modern mobile photography.
