Adobe is rolling out an AI-heavy update for Photoshop, introducing a suite of new tools designed to streamline the creative workflow. Currently launching in beta, the update features an "AI Assisted Editor" view—an optional interface that consolidates all of Photoshop’s AI capabilities into a single, simplified toolbar.
The AI Assisted Editor Interface
This new toolbar brings together features such as the prompt-based image editor, background remover, and an AI image extender. Adobe describes the embrace of conversational AI editing as a "fundamental shift" in creative work, moving toward a more intuitive interaction between the user and the software.
Refining Edits with "Markup"
A key addition to the update is the "markup" feature, which allows users to draw directly on an image to communicate their intent to the AI assistant. Instead of relying solely on text prompts, creators can now select areas to recolor, sketch arrows to indicate positioning, or brush in rough shapes to suggest where new elements should be placed.
Context-Aware Editing with Firefly Image 5
Adobe is also updating its "Instruct Edit with Masks" feature. Powered by the Firefly Image 5 model, the software can now understand the entire context of an image. This advancement eliminates the need for manual marking of every specific area. Users can instead use natural language prompts to perform complex edits, such as opening closed eyes or placing a hat on a subject’s head, with the AI identifying the appropriate areas automatically.
