Details of the Bond Issuance
The offering consists of $10 billion in bonds across three different maturities and €1 billion in bonds with two maturities. The proceeds are earmarked for the next installment of SoftBank's investment in OpenAI, with a portion also allocated for general corporate purposes.
Strategic Commitment and Credit Standing
The Japanese conglomerate's total financial commitment to OpenAI is now nearing $65 billion, making the AI firm's performance a critical factor for SoftBank's financial results. Currently, S&P Global Ratings maintains a BB+ rating for SoftBank, placing it one notch below investment grade. Given its scale, this issuance ranks among the largest in the high-yield bond market.
