A federal court in St. Louis, Missouri, has dismissed the lawsuit filed by Annie Altman against her brother and OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman. The ruling was based strictly on procedural grounds and does not constitute a judgment on the merits of the allegations, which Altman denies.
The Grounds for Dismissal
Judge Zachary Bluestone clarified that the lawsuit was dismissed because the plaintiff refused to undergo an independent medical examination. According to the judge, Annie Altman had been repeatedly warned that failure to comply with this requirement would result in the dismissal of her case.
While current legal representatives for both parties have not commented on the latest development, Santos Perez, a lawyer who previously represented Annie Altman before withdrawing last month, stated: "I am no longer authorized to comment on this case, but I continue to believe Annie."
Background of the Allegations
The lawsuit, filed in January 2025, alleged that Sam Altman engaged in repeated sexual abuse and rape between 1997 and 2006 at the family home in Clayton, Missouri. The allegations spanned a period starting when Annie was 3 and Sam was 12, with the plaintiff claiming the final acts occurred when Sam Altman was an adult.
The Altman family has countered these claims by stating that Annie Altman struggles with mental health issues and receives financial support. Sam Altman has previously asserted that the public accusations began on social media only after the family rejected her demands for more money.
