Anthropic has decided not to proceed with the acquisition of the startup Decart AI, ending discussions for a deal valued at approximately $6 billion. According to sources familiar with the matter, the AI firm conducted due diligence but ultimately withdrew from the process. Representatives for both companies declined to comment.

The Strategic Value of Decart

Decart AI specializes in software that optimizes chip performance and reduces the costs associated with training and operating AI models. Furthermore, the startup develops "world models" designed to simulate the physical environment for applications ranging from autonomous driving and e-commerce to real-time video production.

This technology was viewed as a strategic fit for Anthropic, which is seeking ways to manage escalating computing power costs. These efficiencies are critical as demand for its Claude model grows and the company prepares for an eventual initial public offering (IPO).

Financial Context and Future Outlook

In May, Decart raised $300 million in a funding round that valued the company at nearly $4 billion. Its investor base includes high-profile names such as Nvidia, Adobe Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Benchmark. Although the $6 billion mega-deal is off the table, the possibility of a different form of partnership remains open, reflecting Anthropic's continued interest in cost-saving computational solutions.
