NVIDIA has unveiled Kumo Forecast (formerly NV-Tesseract Forecasting), a multi-variate time-series forecasting model that introduces a hybrid approach to data analysis. Built on the MOMENT-1-large backbone, a Transformer with approximately 340 million parameters, the system utilizes Domain-Aware Representation and Retrieval (DARR) to enhance predictive accuracy.

DARR and Historical Context Integration

Unlike traditional models that rely solely on representations learned during pretraining, Kumo Forecast in DARR mode can retrieve related patterns from historical data using a nearest-neighbor approach. This process allows the model to blend direct predictions with actual historical examples, creating a clear distinction between the immediate input window and the broader historical context.

Interpretability and Industrial Use Cases

A core feature of the model is the "NVExplain" interpretability framework. It provides diagnostic insights into trajectory stability and offers feature attributions per forecast horizon, all without requiring modifications to the underlying forecasting architecture.

Kumo Forecast is already integrated into NVIDIA’s Factory Operations (FOX) Blueprint, specifically supporting the Predictive Maintenance module. The model is released under the Apache 2.0 license, providing developers with both a pretrained inference workflow and documented pathways for fine-tuning on custom datasets.
