President Donald Trump on Sunday appointed Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, to spearhead a new government task force dedicated to artificial intelligence. In a characteristic move, Trump is branding the initiative the “Super Intelligence Force,” reflecting his effort to rebrand AI as “super intelligence.”

A Mandate for Global Leadership

The announcement follows a high-profile meeting at the White House last week, where Trump hosted top executives from leading AI firms. According to the President, these companies have signed a voluntary accord aimed at effectively self-policing the development of AI technology.

The task force is mandated to coordinate federal efforts to maintain American dominance in the field. In a social media post, Trump stated the goal is "to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence," an advancement he described as potentially "bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and the Internet." He emphasized that the initiative would protect the interests and improve the lives of all American citizens.

Broad Outreach and Key Personnel

The task force plans to engage with a diverse array of stakeholders to shape its strategy. Its outreach will include:

  • Consumers and public interest groups
  • Religious organizations
  • Critical infrastructure providers
  • AI companies

The membership of the force includes prominent federal officials: Andrew Ferguson, chairman of the Federal Trade Commission; Emil Michael, the Pentagon’s chief technology officer; and Scott Kupor, director of the Office of Personnel Management. The group will report directly to President Trump and his chief of staff, Susie Wiles.
