A significant shift in how diagnostic centers and laboratories operate is set to take effect on September 1, 2026. According to an announcement by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis, the electronic registration of laboratory test results in the Digital Repository is becoming mandatory.
Linking Registration to Reimbursement
This reform is not merely a technical upgrade; it is directly linked to the financing of health services. As the Minister clarified via a social media post, recording results in the Digital Repository will now be a necessary prerequisite for these tests to be reimbursed by EOPYY (the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services). The measure applies to all contracted providers across both the public and private sectors.
Gradual Implementation and Timeline
The rollout of the new system will occur in phases to ensure a smooth transition for healthcare providers:
- First Phase (September 1): Includes tests categorized under "Biological Materials 1 & 2."
- Second Phase (November 1): Mandatory implementation of changes regarding Master Data services and new LOINC mappings will begin.
The ultimate goal of this initiative is the seamless integration of medical data into the digital health records of citizens. By establishing a unified recording system, the Ministry of Health aims to improve the monitoring of health data and enhance the quality of services provided.
