A US District Judge on Tuesday dismissed the lawsuit filed last year by Ann Altman alleging that her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, had sexually abused her throughout their childhood.

Procedural Failures Lead to Dismissal

Judge Zachary Bluestone granted Sam Altman’s motion to dismiss the case "with prejudice," a legal term meaning the lawsuit cannot be refiled in that court. The judge noted that over the past year, Ann Altman had failed to appear for a required independent medical examination and missed multiple court deadlines, despite explicit warnings that such failures would result in the dismissal of her claims.

Family Denials and Legal Outcomes

The Altman family maintained that the allegations were untrue. In a statement shared by Sam Altman, his mother, and his brothers when the case was first filed, they described the claims as "deeply hurtful and entirely untrue," adding that the situation caused "immense pain" to the family.

While the judge ruled in favor of dismissing the suit, he denied Sam Altman’s request for the plaintiff to cover his attorney fees and legal costs. Santos Perez, who represented Ann until withdrawing earlier this month, told The Guardian that while he is no longer authorized to comment on the specifics, he continues to believe in his former client.
