Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler, has announced a partnership with Intel’s Mobileye to power Level 2 hands-free driving features across its vehicle brands. Starting in 2027, the automaker will begin installing these advanced systems, aiming to provide "hands-free, eyes-on" driving capabilities in designated areas.
EyeQ Technology and REM Mapping
The core of this integration involves Mobileye’s EyeQ system-on-a-chip and its Road Experience Management (REM) data crowdsourcing program. REM utilizes real-time data from millions of Mobileye-equipped vehicles to construct a high-definition global 3D map. This technology is designed to enable intelligent lane keeping even on unmarked roads under specific conditions.
Mobileye reports that its REM system currently covers more than 95 percent of public roads in the United States and Europe. This vast network is fueled by data from over eight million vehicles, which collectively logged 34 billion miles last year.
The Business of ADAS
Automakers are increasingly viewing Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) not just as safety enhancements, but as significant revenue streams. Experts predict that ADAS revenue could reach $90 billion over the next decade, driven by software updates and subscription models.
While Stellantis currently offers some hands-free features in specific Jeep and Ram models, this partnership marks a push to keep pace with rivals like Ford and GM. Additionally, Stellantis is working with UK-based Wayve on a more advanced "hands-free, eyes-off" system called STLA AutoDrive, which is slated for a 2028 debut. Financially, Mobileye is showing strong momentum, reporting $558 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2026, a 27 percent increase year-over-year.
