In the high-stakes race for artificial intelligence supremacy, where OpenAI and Anthropic compete for dominance with their respective models, Nvidia has carved out a unique position: backing everyone. CEO Jensen Huang has made it clear that Nvidia does not need to predict a single winner, as the company benefits when more model creators thrive.
Billion-Dollar Bets on Competitors
The scale of this strategy is reflected in recent financial commitments. In November 2025, Nvidia announced an investment of up to $10 billion in Anthropic as part of a partnership to develop and operate the Claude models. By February 2026, OpenAI revealed that Nvidia had participated in its new funding round with a $30 billion contribution.
Speaking on Dwarkesh Patel’s podcast, Huang explained that Nvidia aims to invest broadly across the AI landscape. This approach extends beyond large language models (LLMs) into AI infrastructure, robotics, and autonomous driving. For a company that provides the underlying computing power for AI applications, the growth of more businesses directly correlates to increased demand for its technology.
Lessons from the 1990s
Huang links this strategy to Nvidia’s own history. During the 1990s, dozens of companies were competing in the 3D graphics market. Huang noted that back then, few would have bet on Nvidia being the one to eventually prevail. This historical perspective reinforces his belief that Nvidia's role is not to pick the next "winner," but to enable the entire ecosystem to expand.
Furthermore, Huang remains optimistic about AI safety, dismissing fears of an existential catastrophe in the near term. He estimated a "0% chance" that AI would bring about the end of the world by the year 2030.
