Meta is expanding the reach of its artificial intelligence by allowing users to connect its Muse AI agent to their own hardware. By open-sourcing the necessary code, the company is encouraging the maker community to integrate the AI assistant into custom displays and Raspberry Pi setups.

From E Ink Displays to HDMI Sticks

Meta has suggested several potential projects for hobbyists. These include loading Muse onto color E Ink displays to serve as smart reminder boards, attaching it to HDMI sticks for large-screen interaction, or building small touchscreen devices that function as DIY versions of the company's Muse Charm.

“Muse gadgets are open source devices you build yourself,” Meta stated. The company is providing SDKs to program off-the-shelf ESP32 boards or Raspberry Pi units, enabling Muse to interact with buttons, sensors, and actuators. However, the release comes with a clear caveat from the tech giant: “Proceed at your own risk!”

Muse Home Link Giveaway

In addition to the open-source code, Meta is giving away 5,000 units of its own Muse Home Link gadget. This device utilizes community-built skills to allow the AI agent to perform tasks such as controlling lights, managing TVs, or sending documents to printers. According to Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs, a waitlist is currently open for the device, with shipping expected to commence later this month.
