Google has announced the expansion of its Google AI Educator Series to the United Kingdom and Ireland, an initiative designed to provide comprehensive digital literacy training to 650,000 educators. The program, which has already reached millions of teachers in the U.S., India, and Korea, focuses on building confidence in the responsible use of AI technology.
Practical Curriculum and Micro-Credentials
The curriculum is built by educators for educators, consisting of bite-sized, practical lessons delivered through virtual and in-person events. The training aims to help teachers reclaim vital instructional time by using AI to simplify administrative tasks and personalize lesson plans for diverse student needs. Upon completion, educators earn micro-credentials and badges to showcase their AI literacy.
Supporting National Digital Goals
Data from Public First indicates that 74% of education roles in the UK could be enhanced by AI. Google's program aligns with the UK government’s broader objective of training 10 million workers in digital skills by 2030. To further support school leadership, Google has partnered with the National Governance Association to develop an AI Policy Toolkit, assisting school governors and trustees in the safe adoption of AI policies and tools within their institutions.
