Meta is bringing its "Your Algorithm" feature to Facebook, moving beyond its initial launch on Instagram to give users more direct control over their content. The feature allows individuals to manage the topics appearing in their main feed and Facebook Reels, with recommendations designed to respond immediately to user input.

Real-Time Feedback Loops

Facebook users can access "Your Algorithm" or select "interested" and "not interested" options from the three-dots menu on specific posts. Meta noted that these buttons may also appear directly under posts, and the system may ask follow-up questions to gain more detail on user preferences.

Crucially, users can now describe what they want to see more or less of in their own words. Meta claims that these updates happen in real-time, adapting within the same browsing session to reflect the user's current interests.

LLMs in Content Ranking

The update is part of Meta's broader push to integrate AI-powered tools into its content customization systems. The company revealed it is increasingly utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) within its ranking infrastructure.

By using LLMs, Meta's systems can better incorporate the context and intent behind natural language. This shift effectively allows users to "talk" to the algorithm, providing a more intuitive way to steer recommendations. This follows the rollout of similar features on other Meta platforms, such as the "Dear Algo" feature on Threads earlier this year.
