Shortly after unveiling its latest frontier AI model, Google announced an initiative to grant 200 European researchers access to its most advanced systems. The announcement, made during an AI summit in Dublin, is designed to provide direct support for scientific research across the continent.

Selection Process via the RAISE Program

The researchers who will benefit from this initiative will be selected by the European Commission rather than the company itself. Candidates will be drawn from the beneficiaries of the European RAISE program. As Google clarified to Agence France-Presse (AFP), this move is intended to bolster the competitiveness of European scientists on the global stage.

Frontier Tools from DeepMind and Google Cloud

The selected experts will gain direct access to specialized scientific tools developed by Google’s DeepMind division and Google Cloud. These include:

  • AlphaFold 3: A leading model specializing in protein research.
  • AlphaGenome: A tool focused on genomic research.
  • WeatherNext: A system for advanced meteorological forecasting.

Google emphasized that providing critical computing power and cutting-edge tools is essential for accelerating innovation. This comes at a time when artificial intelligence is increasingly disrupting various research sectors, from mathematics to biological sciences.
