U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to name Jay Clayton as the nation’s "AI Tsar," according to CNN sources familiar with the discussions. Clayton, currently serving as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), is slated to coordinate Artificial Intelligence policy and decision-making across the federal government.

The Emergence of an 'AI Force'

The anticipated appointment follows Trump’s announcement last month regarding plans to establish an "AI force" and appoint a dedicated advisor to oversee the sector. However, the administration has yet to provide specific details on how these initiatives will be implemented or what their exact mandate will entail.

This marks the second time Trump has designated a lead figure for AI oversight. Entrepreneur David Sacks previously held the role at the beginning of Trump's second term. Although Sacks has since left the formal government team, he reportedly continues to advise the President on AI matters.

A Stance Against Regulation

The move comes amid a growing divide between the White House and tech watchdogs. While prominent researchers and bipartisan lawmakers have raised alarms regarding the potential risks of AI, calling for legislative action, the President has consistently downplayed these concerns. Trump has maintained that additional regulation is unnecessary, even as international pressure for safety frameworks intensifies.
