Nvidia Corp. disclosed on Friday significant investment positions, including a nearly $21 billion stake in Elon Musk’s SpaceX and a $30 billion holding in Intel Corp. According to a regulatory filing, the AI chipmaking giant held approximately 122.8 million shares in SpaceX and 214.8 million in Intel as of June 30.
The SpaceX and xAI Connection
The disclosure marks the first time Nvidia has provided a valuation for its SpaceX position since investing in Musk’s AI startup, xAI. The startup was folded into SpaceX ahead of the latter's unprecedented public debut earlier this year. Nvidia had originally committed as much as $2 billion to xAI in 2025 through a special purpose vehicle designed to facilitate the purchase of its processors for xAI’s massive computing infrastructure.
Strategic Turnaround for the Intel Stake
The value of Nvidia’s stake in Intel has surged from roughly $9.5 billion just three months ago. This investment dates back to last year when Nvidia agreed to a $5 billion commitment to Intel. The two companies announced plans to co-develop chips for personal computers and data centers, a move viewed at the time as a surprising strategic intervention to support a struggling rival.
Broader Portfolio Holdings
In addition to its multi-billion dollar stakes in SpaceX and Intel, Nvidia’s filings for the period ending June 30 revealed holdings in several other firms, including Coherent Corp., Generate Biomedicines Inc., Nebius Group NV, Nokia Corp., and Synopsys Inc.
