EY and Microsoft are entering a new phase of their strategic partnership, announcing a massive investment exceeding $1 billion over a five-year horizon. The initiative aims to transition businesses from the stage of experimental applications to the full integration of artificial intelligence (AI) at an enterprise scale, focusing on measurable outcomes.

From Experimentation to Agentic AI

The collaboration centers on the development of "agentic AI," which enables the creation of autonomous digital agents capable of executing complex workflows. According to the announcement, the two companies seek to help organizations evolve into what they describe as "Frontier Firms"—businesses that can effectively scale technology to generate tangible business value.

EY as "Client Zero"

A core element of this strategy is EY's role as "Client Zero." The organization is the first to implement Microsoft technologies internally before offering them to the market. EY has already deployed Copilot to 150,000 employees, reporting a 15% increase in productivity. Now, the tool is being expanded to over 400,000 people worldwide through "Microsoft 365 E7: The Frontier Suite."

Measurable Benefits and Automation

The data provided by EY from its internal AI usage highlights the technology's potential:

  • Up to 95% faster request processing in financial procedures.
  • Operating cost reductions exceeding 37%.
  • Up to 90% less manual work in the tax sector through automated data extraction from documents.

Furthermore, EY is integrating a new multi-agent framework into its EY Canvas audit platform, which supports 130,000 professionals across 160,000 audit projects globally.

Industry-Specific Specialization

To implement these solutions, joint teams of consultants and engineers are being formed to focus on specific sectors, including financial services, energy, healthcare, and manufacturing. Giorgos Papadimitriou, CEO of EY Greece, emphasized that AI is moving rapidly toward "meaningful utilization," combining Microsoft's technological foundation with EY's industry expertise.
