Google has increased the price of its 4K streaming box to $149, a $50 jump from its original $99 launch price. While the Google Store and Best Buy have already updated their listings to reflect the hike, Amazon appears to still offer the device at its original price point for the time being.
Context of the Price Hike
The adjustment follows the recent launch of Google's Pixel 11 phone lineup, which debuted with a $100 price increase over the previous Pixel 10 generation. The Google TV Streamer, originally released in 2024 as both a media player and a smart home hub, is the latest victim of shifting market dynamics.
Industry-Wide Trends
Persistent component shortages have been cited as the driving force behind rising costs for electronics, including laptops and gaming consoles. Google is not alone in this strategy, as other major players have also adjusted their pricing:
- Amazon recently raised the price of the Fire TV Stick 4K Max by over 40 percent to $84.99.
- Apple implemented sweeping price hikes in June, bringing the Apple TV 4K to $199 for the 64GB model and $249 for the 128GB version.
